The Church and Drinking

So this previous Sunday, Greg went over John 2. In John 2 we see Jesus’ first miracle, where he turned water into wine. This specific passage can bring up some concerns as far as how we as Christians should deal with the consumption of alcohol. The Village Church has a great article on this very subject, so instead of re-inventing the wheel, we will just link you to their site! Please feel free to discuss any questions or comments here, and we as a staff will be happy to respond to anything you can come up with!

The Village Church What Does the Bible Teach About Alcohol

Happy Valentine’s Day, Jesus!

By Sonya Harmon Valentine’s Day is tomorrow.  While highly commercialized, it is essentially a day for showing the person you love just how much you love them.  For couples, it’s usually a happy day filled with trinkets, either big or small, loving actions, words of devotion and time spent together.  For singles, Valentine’s Day canContinue Reading

Back to the Real World and Forgetting God

Here we are, halfway through January, and I’m wondering where the holidays went.  It seems like life went from relaxing, enjoying family, and sleeping in, back to working out, schedules, and juggling priorities.  Now, I know those of you with more life experience might be chuckling at my exasperation with this vicious cycle of adulthood,Continue Reading

Stephanie’s Christmas Letter

Over the past year, God has worked tremendously in my life through many different avenues that I had no reason to ever suspect before. The first and foremost among these was the opportunity to work for the church as the AFC intern. This position brought a great deal of confusion and anxiety into my lifeContinue Reading

Sonya’s Christmas Letter

Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, “For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven.”  And just as a year has four seasons (spring, summer, fall and winter), my year also had seasons. First, 2012 was definitely a season of change.   One of those changes included starting to work for the church.  This jobContinue Reading

Craig’s Christmas Letter

Well, somehow 2012 is almost over and I have no idea where it went.  I try to think back on what has happened this year, but honestly, all of those memories have been overshadowed by the child God blessed Hannah and I with this summer.  Even as Christmas approaches, I can’t help but think thisContinue Reading

Tyler’s Christmas Letter

In the past year, God has brought a lot of realization into my life. I have been following Christ for most of my life, but like most believers, have had a difficult time making him Lord and allowing him to do with me what he wanted, to change me in the ways I needed change.Continue Reading

Pride vs Humility

Luke 18:9-14 The Pharisee and the Tax Collector 9He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and treated others with contempt: 10″Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.11The Pharisee, standing by himself, prayed thus: “God, I thankContinue Reading

Playing With Fire

You can ask anyone in my family, I enjoy playing with fire. Literally, I have a blast with it. When I was a kid I had an almost-burned-the-house-down moment when I was playing with matches. So as any right minded parent would do, my mom told me to never play with fire, it was dangerousContinue Reading
